* Autumnal Demise

Autumnal Demise
a Poem
by
Ambergris Baphomet
     ~*~
I awoke again shivering not
With the crisp Fall air
But a frozen dread
That clenched my innards: Fear.
     ~*~
Harsh light fell sending hot
Slivers of panic and there
Was no time at all to shed
The film of sweat because I could hear
     ~*~
Footsteps and then I saw the glint
Of sharp metal and the knife
Was there beside me gleaming
A Taunt. A Promise. No Surprise.
    ~*~
I sought to move but no hint
Of my terror for my short life
Dear Gods let me be dreaming!
Knife point pain at my Autumnul Demise.
     ~*~
Sawing. Cutting. My cranium hense
Did they want to see my horror?
Why then the deep plucking and scraping?
Exposed to the light my hollowed out head.
     ~*~
Laughter at my immobile tense
Strivings against the ripping of gore
How could I still feel like escaping
If all I was lay beside me heaped, glistening and dead?
     ~*~
Then all through that night of screams
I sat grinning. Empty eyes filled
With dry candle light
Hopelessly grinning and flickering to all
Who came knocking for sickly sweet eats.
     ~*~
Jack of the lantern is all that it seems
To you who scooped me dry and killed
My pumpkin patch sight
To decorate your doorstep this Fall
My Demise. Your Trick. Our Treats.

~* End *~
